AICSYS, Inc., Taipei, announces a line of 1U chassis that are not only cost effective but also extremely flexible. Ideally designed for rugged industrial type applications these chassis support standard ATX motherboards as well as backplane and SBCs. This flexibility has positioned the 1U product line to appeal to both consumer based solutions as well as the typical industrial solution. With that in mind, our customer, a medical educational company has implemented the RCK-103M & SRV-1615M into their network as the Multimedia Server & Primary Server for their Video On Demand (VOD)/E-Learning program. Faced with the daunting task the network specialist found what he was looking for at AICSYS. The challenge was to provide the maximum storage possible as well as CPU horsepower from the servers as possible, yet use as small a form factor as possible in doing so. The VOD system needed to be accessible not only from the same facility but also remotely using TCP/IP protocol, so even if the classroom on site was full, physicians could attend a "Web-Inar" from virtually anywhere in the world.

 The role of the SRV-1615M as the Primary Server requires not only large storage capacity but also high-speed access. The SRV-1615M 1U server Chassis fits that bill perfectly; the SRV-1615M comes standard with an Aluminum Alloy removable HDD Tray, which can support up to three Hot-Swappable SCSI drives. The Primary Server is crucial to this VOD application, responsible for executing program management, user management, system monitoring, and information recording, the SRV-1615M needed to be extremely reliable. The SRV-1615M controls Airflow with four fans and has two internal temperature sensors to safeguard against possible failures due to lack of airflow resulting in increased internal temperatures as well as a 250W ATX PFC power supply for extended reliability. Since the Primary Server constantly processes and stores data, maximum throughput is essential for the VOD/E-Learning program to succeed, the network specialist decided to use a Dual XEON based ATX Motherboard in the SRV-1615M. The Multimedia Server not only supports the Primary Server by storing the multimedia files used for both the E-Learning and VOD programs. Since these files are often large and graphic intensive, the Multimedia Server needed to have as much processing power as possible, the RCK-103M supports a Dual Processor ATX Motherboard, which in this case has also been populated with a Dual XEON board. The RCK-103M is expandable through a 32-Bit PCI riser card, allowing the network administrator to enhance either the graphic controller on the motherboard or even add a Gigabit LAN card if need be. The RCK-103M also comes standard with a 250W ATX PSU and has added features to ensure proper airflow and temperature monitoring. Since the Multimedia Server is able to support file sharing over the internet, allowing remote users to either view a video program on demand or access the server itself for a E-Learning session. Our customer no longer invests valuable funds in sending corporate trainers worldwide to deliver new techniques to its subscribing physicians. Now users are able to log in from their own medial office, university, and hospital or even a home office, and still have all the advantages of being in the classroom or attending a seminar with the click of a mouse. Both the SRV-1615M and RCK-103M demonstrate the diversity of the AICSYS product line.
